Gems

For a REALLY REALLY long time I have been promising many of you that I would start to share articles, podcasts, videos, books, essentially anything I come across that I find deeply worthy in the journey we are all on to wake up, grow up and show up and live a meaningful life.

I will plan to post every week or so with the gems discovered from the week before.  Which means this will not include all of the gems I have discovered in the weeks and years prior to today, those will come up organically in the work we do together. If at any point you want me to remove you from this distribution shoot me a note and I will.  I know for some, even one more email is too many.

Here is what I have for you this week…

A 6 part video series (one talk broken down into 6 ten minute videos) by John Bradshaw.  For any of you familiar with Brene Brown’s work on shame, much of her work is based on Bradshaw’s work. In this series he unpacks the dominant role that shame has playing for all of us.  As someone who thrives on transparency I never imagined what a big role shame plays in my own relationships.

Speaking of relationships.  Many of you have heard me speak of Imago.  I’ve come to believe that we playout all of our emotional wounds from childhood in our adult relationships, not to torcher ourselves but rather to create the relational space from which we can heal and finally grow up our lost parts. In this talk Hedy Schleifer explains the powerful role connection plays in all of us. Relational intelligence is also at play in our professional relationship, person to person and team to team.  I invite you to listen to this in context of all of your relational spaces.

Many of you have embarked into the consciousness of feeling your feelings for the first time.  We often correlate high EQ with how people relate to others but how well you relate to others begins and is limited by how well you relate to yourself and your own feelings.  This is not something we are not taught to do and is modelled poorly generation to generation.  This is a clip from the animated movie “Inside Out”.  This nails it! So powerful for adults and kids alike.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOkyKyVFnSs

Lastly my favourite (current and past) reads are… in fact I have read each of them multiple times. Many of them have podcast series and articles, I highly recommend following their work.

Emotional Agility by Susan David

Reboot by Jerry Colonna

The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday

The Thin Book of Trust by Charles Feltman

The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership by Jim Dethmer and Diana Chapman

What is your favourite read? I am always eager for more to take in.
