Candor

My mind is over flowing with all of the new goodies that I consumed over the past week. So much so that I need to reshuffle my top 5 teachers.  I’m adding Marshall Rosenberg to the list and he is tied with Jerry Colonna at the top of my list. Marshall is best known for his work with Non-Violent Communications (NVC). I’ve never heard anyone unpack the use of language as powerfully and succinctly as he does. And I adore his wit in doing so.

Over the upcoming weeks I will share more on this in coaching sessions, workshops and my weekly finds.

A quote he uses sums up what I love most about his work.  “The ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence.” J Krishnamurti

I have yet to meet/know anyone that does this innately yet it stands to serve us far beyond our IQ or EQ.  In your next meeting today try listening without interjecting your moral judgements, or distinguishing right from wrong.  Park your evaluation, your opinion or your diagnosis. This means parking both your internal and external dialogue that takes you beyond observation.  Becoming conscious of this is required in order to take full responsibility for how you show up.

Here is a link to his book https://www.amazon.com/Nonviolent-Communication-Language-Life-Changing-Relationships/dp/189200528X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=11N1W8VYTQ39J&dchild=1&keywords=non+violent+conversation&qid=1604943947&sprefix=non+violen%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-1

More to come on this next week! Last week’s theme is very much in line with Marshall’s work.  The theme was Radical Candor.  As many of you practice both giving and receiving it you are discovering how challenging it is and how easy it is to revert back to believing that it is complete after it is sent or received.  I expand on this and dig deeper into what is needed in this 10 minute video post. https://zoom.us/rec/share/8JZsGvYyDKin8nXwOFcnZfRAHVy2S_FTG3Bh8pYfteFKwRLNnpOWSKfYGzwmvIe_.mLy7eaOi0c-cTVGy
