Trust & Truth

I have much to share this week.  I am continuing to immerse myself in Marshall Rosenberg’s work.  It so beautifully enriches the Conscious Co-Active Leadership work I have focused on for the past few years.  It gives us the awareness to distinguish language that is above or below the line.  What I am discovering is new depths to how the way we have learned to speak and hear directs our location (above or below) far more than circumstances do.  By unlearning language that builds walls we can open ourselves to language that opens windows to a world that is by-you and even through-you.  I begin to share what I mean by this in this 7 minute video blog.  Much more to come on this is the weeks to come. https://zoom.us/rec/share/k1HzK7rfTyKHz6xvgsUsrW7P3_tCiWQh0KdTOYMcL9Xl1ibJlJ97sDd3NHvFW9OL.MDZvFvtvfX1SsYSn?startTime=1606157824000

Marshall leaned into music and poetry to help affirm how we can hear and speak to what is alive in us.  The only recordings of them are within his workshops.  So I asked my brilliantly talented friend Shane Saunderson to re-create my favourite song and what he came up with is remarkable.  Be sure to take time to fully take the lyrics https://soundcloud.com/shanesaunderson/words-are-windows?fbclid=IwAR0Q4dnHofzdl-qiAeIT7WBW6yXhFHTwlmUCZsjJ26jn5EKE8mEu64rLO94

I recently had a client ask me to share a list of the one line impact sentences I often reference.  These are mostly quotes from my most recent favourite teachers that have profoundly impacted how I show up as a coach and human.  Some are quotes and some are the essence of their words in my words…

  • Observation and wonderment are the highest level of intelligence (above IQ and EQ). Marshall Rosenberg

  • Humans cannot think and listen at the same time. Marshall Rosenberg

  • Talking is the most dangerous thing we do and listening is the most infrequent thing we do. Harville Hendrix

  • All judgements are expressions of unmet needs. Marshall Rosenberg

  • Words are windows or they are walls. Marshall Rosenberg

  • We are also dangerous when we are not conscious of our responsibility for how we behave, think and feel. Marshall Rosenberg

  • Our feelings are data not directives (thinker vs. thought). Susan David

  • Avoiding “negative” feelings are dead people’s goals. Susan David

  • We are your past until we become our future. Jerry Collona

  • We grow up when we can see old memories with new eyes. Jerry Collona

  • If you choose to take an unexamined life do not take a job that involves people. Parker Palmer

  • Better humans make better leaders. Jerry Collona

  • Discomfort is the price we pay for a meaningful life. Susan David

The themes over the past two weeks have been trust and truth.  The degree to which we are trustworthy to others and them to us is potent.  And unpacking what makes us trustworthy is a big topic.  Let’s start with examining if you are telling the truth and how to do so lovingly.  Jim Dethmer guides us on this crucial self-inquiry https://conscious.is/blogs/tell-the-truth?fbclid=IwAR2ulWZfp6PpFM07kexsLkMBlI3F05CTFaET8PGioHN2_y8vYUMXl22C3fU
